A "REAL" HERO

This is what a "real" hero looks like:
Behind the scenes:  Key Lime Pie and Kotten Kandy thought they could rearrange furniture in their bedrooms without any help.  A few hours ago was chaos, stress and two exhausted little girls.  (Also, a HUGE mess - that I was stressed out about.)  Thank goodness for a dad/husband who has the strength and know-how to fix things!  He saved the day.  And the girls are happy with the results.

BUCKET LIST: 5K (DONE!)

Raisin met us at the finish line....
5K Race!?  We did it!
Amy, Me, Kotten Kandy and Key Lime Pie
For Memorial Day Weekend we traveled to Alabama and ran our first 5K race.  We've been training for over a year for this moment!  It was wonderful!
But... let's start at the beginning....
We left Friday for Alabama and got in just before midnight.  Saturday we went played and went to the park.
At the park...
Crazy boys?!
Love my Apple Pie and Jelly Bean!
Sunday we went to Church and then went to pick up our race packets, numbers and shirts.  While we were picking up our "stuff" we stopped to feed the ducks.  Can you believe we saw the entire Plan of  Salvation drawn in chalk on the sidewalk?  It was cool!
Kotten Kandy and Key Lime looking at the fish with Jelly Bean.
Marmalade and Jelly Bean feeding the ducks.
We are standing at Earth Life.... The rest of the Plan was to large to photograph.
Our new shirts.
Monday morning = Race Day!  We all finished.  And more importantly, we accomplished a goal!  Yea!
Before the race.
We ran the 5K.
(I walked.)
Marmalade, Apple Pie and Nuts prepare for the 1 mile fun run.
Juice is also ready to go.
Exhaustion after the race... but still smiles!
Kotten Kandy's time = 45:39
Key Lime Pie's time = 48:32
My goal was 16 minute miles!  I did it!
49:44 = my time
This boy ran the entire mile!
And he crossed the finish line with a HUGE smile!
These two are proud of their accomplishment!

Dr. Pepper was their drink of choice after the race.
This crazy group ALL ran!  Yea, for us!
We are home now... and a new month is about to begin....

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED

We are currently looking for a good story to go with my husband's new fashion statement.  The real adventure is rather lacking:  He was mowing a lawn for a friend in need when a rock flew up and missed his eye by less than a centimeter.  Poor man!  I really do love this service-oriented, hard working and cute (even with a shiner!) guy of mine!

HUMOR

I really do like to laugh.  I don't laugh out loud as much as my husband and daughters (mostly because I'm usually rolling my eyes at them in silent laughter).  My humor is usually a bit more simple - I really laugh at the things kids say!  I wanted to document a few of my favorite funny stories before I forget them.  (I know I've already forgotten a lot of things....)  Some of these stories are about my own daughters but I also have a couple of friends who have shared some of their stories with me.  So...  Enjoy!

When Kotten Kandy was in Primary, I was the music leader.  I was teaching them the song "Praise to the Man."  It's a catchy song and Kotten Kandy enthusiastically went about the house singing it.  Unfortunately, it has a LOT of big words.  So I heard her singing, "Praise to the man who CONDEMNED with Jehovah!"  I explained that the word was communed.  So a few hours later she sang again, "Praise to the man who CONSUMED Jehovah!"  She really changed the meaning.
***
I whispered: I love you, Jelly Bean!
3 year old, Jelly Bean (whispering also):  Hail Hydra!
***
Another friend's son was learning about plants.  His brother asked him where chocolate comes from.
He answered:  "It comes from Sister DeGooyer!"
***
On a road trip, we often make Pit Stops for treats and bathroom breaks.  Key Lime Pie affectionately calls them "PIG Stops," because we "PIG" out!
***
Jelly Bean:  I want to go live with Sundy because she has a cooler van and tractor!
Amy (his mom):  Sundy doesn't have a van or a tractor.
Jelly Bean (accusingly):  Did Scott take them?
***
I was teaching the song "The Thinks You Can Think... (when you think about Seuss)" from the musical Seussical to my show choir.  One of the young boys was also learning about Greek mythology.  He began singing, "Oh the thinks you can think, when you think about... ZEUS!"
***
My daughters loved singing "That Don't Impress Me Much" when they were young girls.  One day we were jamming to the tune for the millionth time when Shania Twain sang, "So you're Brad Pitt?  That don't impress me much!" Kotten Kandy begged me to pause it and asked, "What's a Brad Pitt?"
***
One a walk with Jelly Bean he explained, "Half moons fly higher!"

MY FAVORITE MUSICIANS

I LOVE teaching music!  I LOVE these awesome kids!  Last night was my semi-annual Spring Recital.  My students knocked it out of the park!  Every single one of them was fantastic and I am one proud music teacher!
Not only did all of my "kids" do GREAT, my own daughter was truly AMAZING!  She sang "On My Own" from Les Miserables and "My Strongest Suit" from Aida.  She made everyone cry one moment and smile the next.  What talent!  She is really a natural performer - and I'm not being prejudice....
"On my own
Pretending he's beside me
All alone
I walk with him till morning
Without him
I feel his arms around me
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me."
"Oh now I believe in looking
Like my time on earth is cooking
Whether polka dotted,
Striped or even checked."
"With some glamour guaranteeing
Every fiber of my being
Is displayed to quite remarkable effect...
For dress has always been
My strongest suit!"
I'm blessed to be involved with these fantastic kids!

Well... it's official...  Key Lime Pie is graduating in less than a month.  And she wanted senior pictures.  She got the best photographer around to give her a good price quote (free) - Soooo I took the pictures!  She also wanted to have others in the photo shoot with her.  We had a fun day, Friday taking pictures of these lovely ladies!  Sorry in advance that this post is photo heavy.  Here are some of my favorite group and individual shots:
