EASTER DRESSES AND WALKING THE RED CARPET

Key Lime Pie and Kotten Kandy made their own Easter dresses this year. They had some WONDERFUL mentors who took tons of time to help my daughters look soooooo beautiful! (Thank you Trina and Jan!) Key Lime Pie and Kotten Kandy looked GORGEOUS! And were excited about what they accomplished. And I am a proud mother!
They are also walking the red carpet today at a friend's birthday party in their new dresses. Hence the gloves! :-)

THE HUNGER GAMES MOVIE

The Hunger Games was wonderful! Just like the heroin in the tale, this movie was "on fire!" We were so looking forward to this movie that it was hard for us not to love this story. All of us had read and adored the books. The movie was loved also.

The casting was excellent; especially Peeta, Katniss and Rue. (Did you know that Peeta and Katniss are both from Kentucky?) :-) I cried when Rue died.

The nature of movies keeps them from capturing every emotion and detail from the book, but this one does a pretty good job of keeping the important stuff in. They did miss a bit and changed a bit, but I wasn't bothered by that.

My only disappointments came in the form of camera work. I sometimes wish the camera would slow down or stop - I know they were trying to make it exciting by moving so much but I found it distracting. I also didn't like Effie Trinkett's character. I found her too serious and not shallow enough.

My one word description is "WOW!" We really loved it!

ANTICIPATION....

I am sooooooooooooooooo excited to see "The Hunger Games" tomorrow. And one of our sweet friends, Muffin, heightened my preoccupation of the event with these clever white roses. (If you haven't read the book, you wouldn't understand.) She gave each of my daughters a rose from President Snow also! Thanks, Muffin!
The card reads:
Dear Sundy DeGooyer of District 1
Happy Hunger Games!
May the odds be ever in your favor!
President Snow

SPRING

I am so excited that it is finally spring! It is beautiful here in Kentucky! Check it out:
I'm especially excited to be celebrating spring this Saturday with my daughters and best friend, Amy, at the theater. I can't wait to see "The Hunger Games." :-)

FUN WITH COUSIN, ROLO

Rolo and Uncle Brett came to visit this week. We've had so much fun! Key Lime Pie and Kotten Kandy love hanging out with her. She is really smart and sweet.

Monday we made leprechaun hats for St. Patrick's Day. They turned out so cute! And they were the perfect craft for all ages (Apple Pie is only 3 and Key Lime Pie is 13) and we all enjoyed painting them.

Wednesday we went to Salato Wildlife Park again. We had a picnic and walked the trail. We had a blast!

It's been a great week! And Rolo fits into our family so well. I vote we keep her, but I think her parents would really miss her so I guess I'll have to send her back.... :-)

ALL NIGHTER

It is 6:15 a.m. and I haven't been to bed yet. Why? Because I love musicals. I have spent the entire night creating a musical education unit for my daughters. I had so much fun listening to and re-living all of my favorite shows! I even wrote down a bunch of "wisdom" that I have learned from musicals. I'll share, eventually. But here is a sampling:

Things I have learned from musicals:
Those who speak of what they know, find too late that prudent silence is wise.
You can never use too much hairspray.
Luck is of the female gender.
“Why are you telling me?” is quite a good philosophy.
The grey stuff is delicious.
You are your own master. There are no shackles on you.
or – In life, one has to face a huge assortment of nauseating fads and good advice.

HONOR

Key Lime Pie is a Beehive. And she received her Young Woman Medallion for completing her Personal Progress today. Scott and I were so proud of her. And we know Heavenly Father is proud of her too. Her goal is to get her Honor Bee next and then complete the program again. She is an amazing young woman!

SALADO WILD LIFE PARK

Saturday was so much fun. We went to the Salado Wild Life Park with a HUGE group of our friends. We picnicked on hot-dogs, played catch and visited. We walked around the preserve and hiked a small trail. The weather was beautiful. The company was great. It was a wonderful day!
The wildlife was so close...Key Lime Pie became a part of the bear exhibit...We actually saw the buffalo running to get their food. This HUMONGOUS beat was definitely king of his group as he pushed the smaller buffalo away. Our "honorary" Uncle Chris ROCKS! Key Lime Pie and Kotten Kandy love this guy!Eagles are AMAZING!Scott and Jeremy demonstrate that Mormons really do have horns! :-)
This "nest" is a replica of the bald eagles nest. All of our kiddos fit in with room to spare!
What a great day!

BOOK REVIEW

I just finished reading a GREAT book. It's called Ten Ways to Destroy the Imagination of Your Child by Anthony Esolen. In this book, Esolen shows how imagination is being extinguished in our children all the time. It is being murdered by: raising our children almost exclusively indoors; in reducing love to sex education and hygiene; not allowing children free time and over scheduling them with organized free time; teaching children that EVERYONE is a hero and thus making true heroes not important; distracting children with shallow time fillers and noise; and causing the children to deny the transcendent. He takes aims at the trends that are causing this destruction while offering parents and children clear solutions as well. This book reclaims lost traditions. And it is very witty. It kinda reminds me of C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters (another fantastic book that I need to reread soon). I believe this book helps any parent who cares about what childhood has become, and wants to give their children something better.
