THE DeGOOYER FILES - DeGOOYER DAY 2019

DeGOOYER DAY 2019
HAPPY DeGOOYER DAY!  It's definitely one of our favorite holidays!  This year we did a supernatural theme (ie. The X-Files, cemeteries, giants and haunted houses).  And it was a HUGE  hit!  We all agreed it was wonderful!
We started our day with pictures at random sights and eating donuts.  (DeGooyer Day donuts are a must!)

And then... We went to a haunted house escape room.  It was so fun!  It was hard than I thought it would be.  We learned a lot about each other during the experience.  We realized Kiara is more demanding than we realized.  She likes to be in control.  And Katia is willing to take one for the team.  She demanded that Scott shoot her.  Cody was a huge asset.  And I was able to figure out the music clue.
We went to Cave Hill Cemetery to see the graves of Mohammed Ali and Colonel Sanders.  We were excited to see the famous graves... but when we reached our destination, we were amazed at the beauty of this resting place.  It was ancient, green, well landscaped, and GORGEOUS!  We all agree that it was wonderful to walk through the sacred ground looking at the beauty and reading the names of people who have gone before.  We reluctantly left for our next destination vowing to come back and spend more time in this beautiful, quiet place.

She used the bathroom in ALL the places...
This beautiful girl is leaving us for 18 months soon....
This is just a bit of the beauty to be seen....
Isn't it gorgeous?!
And the kids too!
If Cave Hill Cemetery was amazing... our next activity topped it.  We went to Bernheim Forest.
Bernheim Forest is a beautiful outdoor sanctuary... but it has been made even more wonderful through art.  Renowned Danish artist, Thomas Dambo, created beautiful Forest Giants (or Trolls).  Dambo makes larger than life sculptures from recycled and repurposed materials.  These whimsical creations tell stories and inspire.  His giants are in Brazil, Chicago, Colorado, Florida and Europe.  It was truly inspirational and incredible!
I LOVED this quote....
The history of the Giant Trolls....
Baby Boy Giant
Pregnant Mommy Giant
Big Sister Giant
Scott felt small comparing his foot...

A unicorn horn and a dragon head...
Katia found her fantasy world.

and Me!
We were starving after the hikes at the cemetery and the forest... so we went to the Blind Squirrel.  YUMMMMM!  And it was a super fun atmosphere too.  We actually only went there because it had a funny name... but Scott has already exclaimed that he'd like to go back for multiple date nights.  I'm game!
Do y'all see the "Blind Squirrel" in the background?
Home - Games and X-Files is how we finished the day!
I sure do love my family!  I'm so grateful for this tradition of ours!
