DeGOOYER MINUTIA

As Katia would say, "It's been a fat minute" since I've blogged.  We've been just doing trivial and ordinary daily tasks of staying alive and striving to be the best we can be.  Sometimes we get so caught up in our own routines, that I wonder if anyone really wants to read about what we are up too.  Getting older makes things much more unremarkable, but there is joy in the ordinary.  And being married to Scott keeps things exciting and fun.  He makes me laugh.

The hardest thing that has happened in the past two weeks was that I sliced my pointer finger on my left hand while cutting tubes for work.  It was bad.  (I should have gone to the doctor.)  I wasn't able to play the piano or cello for 5 days.  I also wasn't able to finish cutting 13 boxes of tubes because of the injury.  Luckily I'm OK now.

This is the second bandage - because the other one bled through.
I tried to get a picture of the actual cut for my sister, but I wasn't able to.
No one else would want to see it anyway...
While I have been cutting tubes, Kiara has been working at the warehouse for the last week.  I get to babysit my grandson!  He's adorable!  And I had a hard time narrowing down pictures of Skittles to only these few:

He is so focused on his toys.  This is his focus face.
Knick Knack Paddy Wack Give Skittles a Bone
This face makes me laugh!
That smile has completely stolen my heart!
I was able to take pictures of my son for his website portfolio.  Look how handsome he is!

"MY" Boy!
The Bettenhausens are soooo happy Katia is home:

Katia was about to drop them....
I remember my little brother, Ben, reading Hank the Cowdog books when he was Jelly Bean's age... so I got him the first book in the series.  He started reading it right away!  It made me so happy!

He's a reader!
We were able to go visit with one of our YSAs on Thursday night.  Zhong took us on a tour of his lab and show us the nano-robot he created.  It is the size of a speck of dust, but it is able to fly with lasers.  It's really fascinating!  I loved learning about chemistry and seeing the clean room....

Zhong is super smart!  I love this guy!
This is a normal slide to look at under a microscope.
The piece of dust on the left side of the dark square is his robot.
It's fascinating!
Katia is showing off the contraption complete with the lasers.
This picture is for my dad.
It's another speck of dust (under amplification) in the form of a real guitar.
Scott and I are blessed with REALLY good friends!  These are the kinds of friends who strive to live good lives through the gospel of Jesus Christ.  These are the kinds of friends who you "adopt" as family when parents and siblings live far away.  These are the kinds of friends who build us up.  These are the kinds of friends who love our children and we love their children.  These are the kinds of friends whom we have formed a tribe with in order to help each other through good and bad times.  But because of the business of the world, we sometimes have to make up reasons to celebrate and get together.  Hence, the Post Holiday Blues Party!  I love these guys so much!  (We've decided we need to get together once a month for preparedness learning together!  I can't wait!)

OUR CHRISTMAS - IN JANUARY

Sooooo we waited for 3 weeks to celebrate the birth of our Savior.  We wanted to celebrate with both of our daughters, our son and our grandson.  So we had our traditional Christmas Eve on Friday and Santa came on Saturday morning.  We enjoyed a delicious dinner and read Luke 2 Friday night.  We put on our new PJs and enjoyed watching The Nativity Story. (Which is one of my favorite renditions of the birth of Christ.  It was released in 2006 and stars Oscar Isaac as Joseph.  It's beautiful!  I recommend it.)

Lovin' family time!
Our PJs
Cute Lillywhites!

Silly Kids of Mine!
My silly boy and his new friend!
Christmas Day was also magical.  Watching Spencer get excited about everything is so much fun!  Merry Christmas from our family to yours!  And may we keep the spirit of Christmas (not only throughout January - like we did) but throughout the entire year!

SHE'S HOME!

Wednesday was perfect!  The joy of seeing my daughter again after 18 months is hard to describe!  It felt "right!" to all be together again!  (I know that families can be together forever!)  Katia has grown so much from her experience as a missionary.  Her love for the people and for God is palpable!  And I couldn't be more proud.  Both of my daughters have become amazing and beautiful daughters of God!  And I'm honored to be their mother here on earth!

The Airport Arrival Crew:
Yes, we are all wearing Katia's face!
Her first question was "Is that my face?"
This was such a wonderful sight.
I love seeing Katia hold hands with Raisin, while visiting with Marmalade!
We're all together again!
She brought me Idaho potatoes!  Silly girl!

Being silly together rocks!

SISTER DeGOOYER - WEEK 80 - THE LAST ONE!

Alright, buckle your seats, because this is going to be a long one. This might be the last time anyone hears from me depending on if the plane makes it to Kentucky. My bet is it will, but you never know what God has planned.

I asked my companion last night if I was trunky and she gave me a firm "no." She tends to error on the honest side, so I'll leave that up to you to determine.

This week we worked and it felt so good! I love this work and would not have had my last week spent any other way! There were many tender mercies and cool experiances. We are now sorta/mostly/kinda teaching 2 guys named Scott. They are in no way related to each other, I just thought you'd be interested to know that they live one mile from each other and they both want to know Jesus.

We had a really cool experience yesterday. One of our appointments kinda/sorta/mostly stood us up. So, our backup plan was to contact in the area and then try again later. We contacted the couple houses we knew and they told us they weren't interested #blessings #hoorayforhonesty #if yourenotinterestedsayyourenotinterested I felt like we should walk a certain direction- so we did. Sister Sifford asked where we were going. I said that I had no idea, but that we were going. We found this little path I hadn't ever explored. It led us to a park, where a man we had seen walking earlier (we wanted to stop, but we had to get to our appointment) was sitting. He had a walking stick and several layers of clothes on. We learned that his friends call him Finnegan the Irishman. We stopped and chatted with him for quite a while about God. We shared a message. He gave us direction on where he lives, but I think he's homeless. He gave us a wooden cross (pictured below) and we shared a scripture with him. It was an interesting interaction and one that I am positive God led us to!

I said many goodbye's this week and was informed by my wonderful companion that I am not very good at telling people goodbye. [context] "Hey, yeah, so I should probably let you know I'm leaving. Going home I mean. I finished my mission....."

It was a wonderful last week, all things considered. I got to see 2 baptisms this week. One was a sweet girl that I taught in my first area. I so wished I could've given her a hug, BUT I was able to help her in the changing room. It was awesome to catch up and hear that her goal is the temple with her husband a year from now! I ran into a lot of my old friends from that ward and it was especially cool to chat with Bishop. He is still one of my favorite people and a real example to me of what true christlike leadership looks like.

We attended a funeral this week. Sister Sifford and I are both criers, so we sat towards the back. We had never met the lady who died, but we had a really good interaction with her husband and 8 year old son when she was in the hospital. I am so grateful for a knowledge of life after death- their family is sealed for eternity and that is something beautiful to look forward to. After the funeral, we were both feeling sad and so we decided to get some pizza to cheer ourselves up. We went to Mod Pizza because, go big or go home. We got to the register to pay aaaand we had been paid for. It was a tender mercy! God bless that man wherever he may be!

Random Updates:
- the prank wars with the Zone have intensified. Hot chocolate in a bathtub, our car was wrapped with bologna, peanut butter on door knobs, and gummy bears on windsheilds.
- Transfer news! Sister Sifford is flip training! She is getting Sister Harris and she is going to do so good!
- Packing is the worst

---------------------------------------------------------------------

This being the last will and testament of one, Sister DeGooyer, I thought it would be in order to virtually bare my testimony. :))

Where to begin? I know my Savior lives. I know that what I have been teaching for 18 months is His restored gospel. I have a testimony of each prinicipal the Savior taught. I know that God has a plan for His children to return. I know that the only thing that makes that reunion possible is Jesus Christ!
I know that our prophet today is a true prophet of God- a modern day Moses as some say. He leads this church under the direction of our Savior. What He says is divine, because He knows God.
I know that personal revelation is real. I know that stewardship is real, and that is given us to grow. I know that we can recieve inspiration for those God has asked us to serve. I know that God will answer every question and prayer in His timing- I testify that His timing is right. It is our job and privilage to seek to align our timing and will with His.
I know that the Holy Spirit is real. I know that if we keep the promises we have made or will make or can make at baptism we will have his constant companionship- and that is invaluable.
I know the scriptures are gifts from God. I have no doubt that if you read the Book of Mormon everyday you will not fall away. I know how important and wonderful questions are and I know God will answer our questions if we come to Him and then go to our scriptures.
I know that each one of us is a son or daughter of God- that He loves us with a love we cannot fully comprehend. I have a testimony that if we pray to feel that love not only for ourselves, but for others, God will give that to us. We each have the potential to become like God someday, and the way is our Savior. He sees the best in us, so much so that He gave his life-- more than that He gave His body and blood. Everything that we have felt He has felt. That is both a collective sacrifice and a very individual one. I know that our Savior broke the bands of death- He did that for us. I know that through His sacrifice we can be made whole again and return to the presense of the Father.
I have a testimony of work, hard work. I testify that the teaching of the second mile is so real, true and applicable in our lives.
I have a testimony of repentance. We are never too far gone for our Savior's love. Repentance is a daily thing. I repent the hardest and the most on the days I have done my best, because even then I know how much I fall short. Repentance isn't just for the hard times, it's for the good too.
There are so many other good things I know to be true. I know Joseph Smith is the prophet of the restoration and that He like President Nelson knew God. I know we lived before this life. I know that we owe everything to God. I know how much these truths mean to me and I know that I will share them the rest of my life with anybody and everybody who will listen. God is so much more real than so many think. And He is infinitely good! I write all these things in the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

I add my witness to Alma's "And this is not all. Do ye not suppose that I know of these things myself? Behold, I testify unto you that I do know that these things whereof I have spoken are true. And how do ye suppose that I know of their surety? Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself. And now I do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me." Alma 5:45-46

--------------‐------------------------------------------------------

I feel a tribute must be paid to my mission President and Sister Southward. I had my departing interview with my President last night and I am so grateful for these 18 months that I got to serve under his direction. He has been called of God and he is one of the most inspired men I know. I hope to someday be like him and Sister Southward. Their examples have changed my life.

I also want to thank all of you. Your prayers have been felt. Especially in the hard times I have been lifted up by your faith.

Alright, Mom and Dad, I'm coming home!
"the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:" 2 Timothy 4:6-7

2021 - 10k FUN

So last year we walked a 5k to bring in 2020.  This year we decided to up our game.  It took us 1.6 hours to complete a 10k.  It wasn't difficult ... except for the last half mile because of the rain and deep puddles that got our feet wet.  (I really don't like wet feet.)  Kiara upped her game too.  And Cody actually ran a half marathon and finished only ten minutes later than we did on our 10k.  Once again, we made it an event, complete with shirts.  I love our new, silly, healthy traditions!

Then... doesn't my grandson look adorable in the new outfit his Grandpa Lillywhite got him?  I love it!

And I can't help but share my soda with him when he asks, "Peas?"

Grandma's sidekick!

And I really don't like sushi.  Yes, I've tried California rolls... and all the stuffs.  My husband and son love it.  But I just don't.  So my wonderful son decided I might like Keto bacon sushi.  He made it for me... and guess what?  I'm a fan!  I can get behind bacon, cream cheese and a few veggies hidden inside.  Thanks, Cody!

SISTER DeGOOYER - WEEK 79

Another week has come and gone.

I was looking at our area book to remember what happened this week and we did A LOT of contacting. We talked to a ton of people this week! Had some tender moments with some of the people we are teaching and met some new people who we referred to other missionaries.

We got a gift card to Texas Roadhouse-- which got me thinking that even though I am allergic to horses, I can be country. Haha, it was good to sing to the old country songs that were playing on the speakers and order something new (10 out of 10 recommend the fried chicken with gravy). My favorite part about going to Texas is the multitude of people! We can talk to everyone there, and they are just sitting there ready to hear the message we have to share. It's beautiful, plus, people who eat at Texas are my favorite kind of people (it's not at all personal if you don't like eating there- your application has already been submitted and I love you).

Yesterday, we were on fire! Sunday's are the hardest days, still, when you put your shoulder to the wheel, even when you're exhausted, miracles happen! Sister Sifford and I taught some powerful lessons, where the Spirit of God was definitely speaking through us; it's beautiful when that happens! Most often it is when we testify of our Savior, that we can feel an overwhelming sense of the Spirit. Those two have a special bond and it is cool to find myself in the middle of it as I teach truth!

What a wonderful week to start the New Year; Sister Sifford and I both have colds; it is socially acceptable to wear facemasks; so we continued to preach- just with more frequent and accidental naps during meal times.

We are planning this week to be the best of our missions and I am excited! I am excited to see what obstacles get thrown at us. I am excited to see how our Savior will strengthen us.

Goodness, 2020, was a year; unorthodox as it is, 2020 was one of the best years I have ever lived. I will forever be grateful for all that I learned and became in that year. I will forever be grateful for all the people  that I met, they will forever hold a place in my heart. I met some of my best friends this year; I saw a couple of incredible miracles this year. As oneRepublic would say, I lived!

3. Finish draft 1 of book 3
4. Contact a publisher or attend a writing conference
5. Take a class

(And he means bicycle - not motorcycle!  If you know Mark, you know why I must clarify!)
He is always making things fun!
I have a huge list of goals too!
I always do.
And my husband is truly one of my heroes!
He is a spiritual giant, in my eyes!
Look at my adorable grandson!
My boys are looking good in their Texas garb!
Kisses at midnight are tight!
Skittles was soooo tired.
I took this picture at 11:30 PM.
His bed time is usually 7:00 PM.
And he didn't make it to midnight....
But I enjoyed the first cuddles of 2021!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!  I hope that all of my friends and family who read this blog have their dreams and goals and resolutions all come to fruition!  Let's MAKE 2021 awesome!
