DeGOOYER DAY 2016

THE DeGOOYERS - the ENTIRE family!
Our 11th annual DeGooyer Day is in the books!  And it was a huge success!  We LOVE celebrating our family!  DeGooyer Day is definitely one of our family's favorite holidays!
Yesterday we started the day with traditional DeGooyer Day donuts....  Yum!  And of course, our traditional matching shirts....
Scott always designs are cool shirts...
And this year we were celebrating being DeGooyers in Kentucky!
We love our adopted state!
Then we drove to Frankfort.  Our family loves the Kentucky capitol building and we were excited to share it with our first ever, honorary DeGooyer: Lollipop.  She loved the majestic building too!
The Capitol - and the cutest girls in Kentucky!
Sometimes Scott and I get in the pics too....
The Governor's Mansion - We all LOVE Matt Bevin!
The next part of DeGooyer Day:  a park and the Arboretum at UK....
The park was GORGEOUS!  We especially loved the waterfalls.  And I wish we lived closer to the Arboretum because the plants and trees and flowers were ABSOLUTELY glorious!  (I actually took about 20 pictures of just flowers... but I'll post those pics another day.)

Scott, my rugged, outdoor man!
Sundy - Lilacs are my favorite!!!!
Key Lime Pie thinks she can climb the tower...
She didn't get very far.
Kotten Kandy loves the beauty of the outdoors....
Lollipop loves this statue....
I love this man!  I love being a DeGooyer!
This memorial was beautiful!
It represents the people who died in a plane crash in Lexington 2 years ago.
I can't believe I took this picture...  It's like the blue jay posed just for me!
I really love my three daughters!
Then lunch at Steak and Shake - complete with yummy shakes!
Ale-8 is a soda manufactured and popular in Kentucky.  We decided to check it out.  Unfortunately we missed the tour, but we tried the drink....
On our way to "try" the ferry, we found this place:
We decided to check it out in spite of the torrential downpour.  It was awesome!  This fort is educational and fun!  We all loved it despite the shower we received.
Fun daughters....

Staring contest with Daniel Boone....

None of us had ever been on a ferry... so we decided to check it out.  It was fun....  I'm sure the ferry workers thought we were weird taking pictures and so excited to be in our car crossing the river....
And finally we ate dinner at our favorite Kentucky restaurant:  Chueys.
We were tired at the end of the day.  We drove home and crashed on the couches watching two episodes of Psych before ending our beloved holiday!  I love this crazy, wonderful, fun family of ours!!!

IT'S A "BLAST!"

(Yes, I took this amazing photo....)
We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful state!  And one of the really fun things about Kentucky is Thunder Over Louisville!  If you aren't from Kentucky, you probably don't realize that a two minute horse race in May (the Kentucky Derby) is really a two week celebration.  We LOVE the kick-off:  Thunder Over Louisville (or Thunder, for short!)  It is the nation's largest annual fireworks event and it is also one of the top five air shows in the country.
We spent the day with good friends (the Schmids, the Bettenhausens and the Thorntons).  We also invited the Sister missionaries (with permission from their mission president).  We BBQed, visited, watched the amazing air show (which Lollipop REALLY was excited about - since she wants to be a pilot.), proselyted (Key Lime Pie and Kotten Kandy talked to 94 people with the Sisters), got sun-burned, and topped it all off with an AMAZING firework display.  We truly had a blast!  Saturday was a beautiful day and a beautiful set of memories were made...  And don't worry, I took lots of pics....  Check it out:
Kotten Kandy, the sisters, Rice Krispie, Key Lime Pie, Lollipop and Asparagus
Chillin' on the blanket....
Sheila, Mike and Asparagus - love this family!
A rare photo of "the boys!"  Usually I can't get pictures of these two AWESOME guys....
Hammond and Chris....

Scott makes the BEST BBQed chicken... not dry at all!
I love this man of mine!
We were all excited when the Bettenhausens joined us!
We love our Jelly Bean!  Don't we Key Lime Pie?!
These kids were raised as brothers and sisters!
Kotten Kandy, Marmalade, Jelly Bean, Key Lime Pie, Juice and Apple Pie

Jelly Bean, Apple Pie and Marmalade
OK...  These are some of my favorite guys ever!
(Scott is my favorite guy - but I would adopt these two boys in a heart-beat as my own sons!)
Asparagus is GREAT with babies - but he's not so sure....
I LOVED how the walking bridge kept changing colors in the twilight....  And I loved how the lights reflected in the water....

These sweet girls couldn't stop looking up to the sky....  They loved the air show... but they especially loved the firework display.  I sure love these girls!
