I LOVE BOOKS!

Well, my goal to read at LEAST 12 books this year is coming along nicely.  I've already read 9!  I think I'll set a new goal of 24 books in a year....  I'm also re-reading a book between new books.  That has been a fun thing to do too.  I haven't been reviewing the re-reads.  So far I've re-read the first 3 books of Harry Potter.  I LOVE them!  I recommend them!
I also finished a new book two nights ago, and I wanted to share:
My husband recommended Brene Brown's book, The Gifts of Imperfection, to me a few months ago.  I finally got around to reading it, and I'm glad I did.  (I didn't like it as much as Gretchin Rubin's book, Better Than Before, but I still enjoyed this read.)  I struggle with a bit of perfectionism, and accepting my mistakes, forgiving myself and having compassion for myself is not easy.  This book addressed all of this.  I really liked how Brene talks about how connection to others is a huge source of joy.  And she talks about other kinds of joy: meaningful work, enjoyable hobbies, creative endeavors (my favorite chapter), etc.  This book has a lot of great suggestions as to ways to get past the feelings of inadequacy and perfectionism.  I also liked how at the end of each chapter she gives ideas on how to implement the ideas she discusses.  She also shares ways to be inspired by these values.  (I love "To Dos!")
I just need to practice at things that bring joy and realize it's OK not to be perfect!

  1. I got this book for Shanae (Christmas present) a few years back. She enjoyed it and so then had to read it. It was good and I was surprised at how much I learned from it. I don't consider myself a perfectionist, but there was definitely words of wisdom for all walks of people.

  2. Maybe - from reading what my two girls have written - I should borrow the book from one of you and read it. Sounds intriguing... Mom
